Romney Boro Park Visit Leads Local Dems to Threaten Hikind With a Primary

Interesting how news takes on a life of its own. This news site, GestetnerUpdates.com, reported Friday early morning that Mitt Romney is planning to visit Boro Park Brooklyn for a December fundraiser. This led a NY Post reporter to contact the local NY State Assemblyman Dov Hikind Friday afternoon to schmooze with him about Presidential Politics. Hikind made it clear that he would back Newt Gingrich all. Hikind’s feelings about the race was part of the Post’s Saturday report of the Romney visit. A few hours later, local Democrats threatened via a Facebook post, to Primary Hikind. From The Brooklyn Politics:

In a Facebook post announcing, “Consider the gauntlet thrown,” the Bay Ridge Democrats indicate that the club is ramping up a possible primary challenge to Democratic Assemblyman Dov Hikind (who has endorsed a number of Republicans for various offices lately).

Hikind has indicated that he will work to defeat President Obama for reelection — ideally on the side of Newt Gingrich, which would place him on collision course with the ultimatum.

“If Hikind does comes out and officially endorse a GOP candidate against Obama, we plan on giving him a primary,” a Bay Ridge Democrats spokesman told me, referencing a resolution they recently passed calling on Hikind, among others, to support the President. “And we already have the guy lined up.”

Hikind’s district, based outside of Bay Ridge, has a plethora of conservative Orthodox voters registered as Democrats, so it’s hard to see this as anything but an uphill fight against the unreliably Democratic
Assemblyman.
