11:22: Jennifer Rubin offers what everybody in the audience and press corp think it was re: Huntsman’s speech: “Huntsman did himself no good. He droned on at some length about his domestic record. He slammed his rivals, claiming he’s the only one who wouldn’t “contort himself into a pretzel” to get votes. When he finally got around to foreign affairs, he offered thin gruel. He urged the United States to bring home our troops and stop all this nation-building. He referenced his experience in China, which is a sore point with Republicans who don’t trust a fellow who would work for the Obama administration. His delivery was stiff and pompous. Only a few audience members bothered to ask questions….”
11:10: Transcript of mitt Romney’s remarks http://www.theisraelproject.org/atf/cf/%7B9314a74c-c58d-43ae-83f8-73a434f7d1ea%7D/ROMNEY_2011-12-07_RJC_REMARKS.PDF
1!:06:stusandler tweets:Romney hits home run with speech to RJC forum. Strong support for Israel and inspiring vision for US foreign policy.
10:59: here ya go newt… Romney: I’m not a creature of Washington, i’m not in to have a political career, i don’t have a political career.
10:55: Romney: Our nominee must offer Americans more than just a choice to vote against President Obama..
10:53:Many think that because of his staggering failures, President Obama will be easily defeated. But an incumbent is rarely turned out of the White House, and class warfare and demagoguery can be powerful explanations in uncertain times.
10:51: Romney: This election will not only be a referendum on President Obama’s failed policies; it will also be a defining choice for America. Will we remain an opportunity nation or become an entitlement nation? Will we remain the leader of the free world, or become a follower in a more dangerous world? Will we ‘fundamentally transform’ America, or will we return to the founding principles that made this the greatest nation history has ever known?
10:47: Romney: “President Obama is replacing our merit-based, opportunity-based society with an entitlement society. In an entitlement society, everyone is handed the same rewards, regardless of education, effort and willingness to take risk. That which is earned by some is redistributed to others. And the only people to enjoy truly disproportionate rewards are the people who do the redistributing – the government.
“Entitlement societies sound good on paper. Opportunity is replaced by the comfort of certainty that everyone will reap the same rewards. That sounds like a good deal until you realize that only one thing that is certain in an entitlement society – everyone is poor, or scraping to get by. In an entitlement society, the invigorating pursuit of happiness is replaced by the deadening reality that there is no prospect of a better tomorrow. Risk-taking disappears, innovation ceases, small businesses wither away. And the result is a nation that stagnates, that declines, that cannot defend itself.
10:40: Romney:”Israel is our closest ally and dearest friend. . Yet, over the past three years, President Obama has chastised our friend and ally. In his inaugural address to the United Nations, the President had plenty of harsh words for Israel, but he said little about the thousands of Hamas rockets raining into its skies. He’s publicly proposed that Israel adopt indefensible borders. He’s insulted its Prime Minister. And he’s been timid and weak in the face of the existential threat of a nuclear Iran.
“These actions have emboldened Palestinian hard-liners who now are poised to form a unity government with terrorist Hamas and feel they can bypass Israel at the bargaining table. President Obama has immeasurably set back the prospect of peace in the Middle East.
“As President, my policies will be very different.
“I will travel to Israel on my first foreign trip. I will reaffirm as a vital national interest Israel’s existence as a Jewish state. I want the world to know that the bonds between Israel and the United States are unshakable. I want every country in the region that harbors aggressive designs against Israel to understand their quest is futile and that continuing it will cost them dearly.
“I would not meet with Ahmadinejad. I don’t believe he should be invited into polite society. To the contrary, I believe he should be indicted for the crime of incitement to genocide under Article III of the Genocide Convention. The ayatollahs will not be permitted to obtain nuclear weapons on my watch. A nuclear-armed Iran is not only an Israel problem, it is problem for the United States and all the decent countries of the world. Our friends should never fear that we will not stand by them in an hour of need. Our enemies should never doubt our resolve.”
10:33: What we need is “not someone just like Mitt Romney, but Mitt Romney,” says Romney’s introducer
10:26: Huntsman on Gutman: There is an ambiguity of this Administration toward Israel. Who is responsible for the language…
10:20: The door of hope has closed for the President… people have tuned out….

10:14: Huntsman: It is time for the word to understand that we stand with #Israel… and ensure there is no blue sky between us..

9:50: Santorum: u think the price will go up,now, imagine what the price would be if Iran gets nuclear weapons…
9:49: Santorum: @StateDept is working against the interest of our country & against US-Israel alliance..We need to take a meat ax to them
9:37: Santorum: Anyone working on the Iranian nuclear program should be termed an enemy combatant and taken out just like Osama bin Laden
9:35: Santorum: we have to make it very clear to #Iran that the US, not Israel. will stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, period!
9:27: In Egypt we threw a cold but never the less a friend of Israel and the US under the bus…
9:25: Iran is not a little country, its a serious threat to the future of our country…
9:20: Santorum: we need to learn from History, when France fell Churchill pleaded to america to come for help, and we did nothing…. i know people are tired of war, but our pearl harbor already happened 10 years ago..it is the long war…
9:15: The RJC grown from a handful to 30,000 members..

12/6 11pm: in what looks like a strong fiscal speech, Mitt Romney will also say, according to some excerpts released, that as President he will reaffirm Israel’s existence as a Jewish State as a U.S. vital national interest… which will no doubt get a strong applause from the audience.
Romney will also declare that Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad “should be indicted for the crime of incitement to genocide.”
“I want every country in the region that harbors aggressive designs against Israel to understand their quest is futile and that continuing it will cost them dearly.”
Romney accuses Obama of having called on Israel to “adopt indefensible borders,” having “insulted” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and having been “timid and weak in the face of the existential threat of a nuclear Iran.”
12/6 8pm: speaking to the Republican Jewish Coalition on Wed, Mitt Romney will say again that going to Israel would be first foreign trip in office, Sarah Boxer reports.
According to excerpts of the speech, Romney will also argue that this will be a tough election, and that President Obama as an incumbent can easily be reelected….
12/6 7:50pm: Gone unnoticed is the non-invite to Fred Karger, the admittedly fringe (popularity-wise, not ideology-wise) candidate who is himself a Republican Jew, TabletMag reports.
he is also, he says, the first Republican Jewish candidate.
Matt Brooks response is: “We established prior to the extending of invitations a set of criteria that needed to be met, including having a threshold amount of money raised, threshold polling in multiple national surveys, and a national campaign organization.” Karger didn’t meet those requirements, he added.
12/6 6:15pm: while Gutman’s remarks are condemned and dealt with through a bi-partisan matter, the NJDC and the RJC are battling it out on twitter… don’t expect any ceasefire too soon.
12/6 6:10pm: There will be no live stream of the RJC Forum, however the speeches will be recorded and published on the RJC website here. stay tuned for more updates…
