National Journal Reports: Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz on Friday is expected to announce his endorsement of former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum.
The move is a much-needed pickup for Santorum but a blow to Mitt Romney, who had received the endorsement of Schultz — who also is a Mormon — during the 2008 presidential race.
Santorum has four events on Friday and plans to make the official announcement in Des Moines on the eve of Saturday’s GOP debate. Despite an energetic push in Iowa – he has visited all 99 of the state’s counties — he has been in the low single digits in polls there.
