CTCourant Reports: The Democratic co-leaders of a key legislative committee Friday blasted a decision by the State Elections Enforcement Commission to hire former Republican Mayor Sebastian N. Giuliano as its executive director and general counsel.
They called for the elections panel to reconsider the choice, which it announced Thursday but will not formally vote on until next Wednesday.
“I strongly believe the SEEC must first and foremost be an independent watchdog of Connecticut’s elections policies, procedures, and processes, without even a hint of partisanship, and a chief elected official, of any party and any municipality, who served in office and ran for re-election as recently as this nominee, compromises that desire for irrefutable nonpartisanship,” Sen. Gayle S. Slossberg D-Milford, co-chairwoman of the Government Administrations and Elections Committee, said in a statement late Friday afternoon.
