Star Ledger Reports: Gov. Chris Christie defended former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in two interviews this morning, repeating advice for Romney to release his tax returns and addressing the former Massachusetts governor’s admission this week that his income tax rate is around 15 percent.
“I don’t think anybody should be shocked by this,” Christie said on CBS This Morning. “This is a guy who hasn’t had a job where he’s been earning income for the last four or five years. So we all know that on capital gains and dividends, you pay a lower rate. Everybody understands that.”
Christie, who endorsed Romney shortly after ending speculation about his own presidential run in October, also praised Romney for his success as a businessman, though Democrats have tried to paint Romney as excessively wealthy. Romney worked for Bain Capital, a private equity firm, until 1999.
