Congressman Hinchey’s Wife Charged With DWI, Suspended License on Eve of Retirement Announcement

LoHud Reports: The wife of retiring Democrat Congressman Maurice Hinchey was charged with drunken driving Wednesday night — on the eve of his announcement that he will leave Congress at the end of his term.

Allison Lee-Hinchey, 49, of Hurley, Ulster County, was charged with drunken driving in downtown Albany at about 9:40 p.m. after she rear-ended another vehicle, said Albany police spokesman Officer Jim Miller.

She was alone in the vehicle, Miller said. Lee, an Albany-based lobbyist, was charged after a sobriety test at the police station showed her with a blood-alcohol level of 0.14, he said. The threshold for drunken driving is 0.08 percent.

It was Lee’s second drunken-driving arrest since May, when she was arrested in her hometown. She pleaded guilty in December to a charge of driving while ability impaired by alcohol.

On Wednesday, she was also charged with driving with a suspended license, following too closely to another vehicle and driving while talking on a cell phone, Miller said.
