Today Councilman Fidler was greeted at Davidzon Radio by Gregory Davidzon, Assemblymember Alec Brook-Krasny, former Assembly candidate Ari Kagan and representatives from many Russian organizations and prominent members from the community in support of his candidacy for State Senate.
“I am honored to be here today with my good friends from the Russian-speaking community. I thank you for your hospitality in inviting me here today and of course for your tremendous support,” said Councilman Fidler. “Today is about protecting our communities. It’s about ensuring that the people who represent us actually speak for us and that starts with saving social programs like senior centers and Section 8 housing vouchers. I know this community and I know what it needs. And I look forward to the honor of fighting for it in Albany.”
In addition to pledging their staunch support for Councilman Fidler in the March 20th Special Election, community members advocated for fairly-drawn district lines to keep the Russian community intact.
“Lew Fidler has a proven record of being a hard working elected official,” said Gregory Davidzon (Gregory Davidzon Media). “He is a huge supporter of the Russian-speaking community’s fight to stop the process of killing the Russian community as a united block.”
Councilman Fidler has been critical of the NY State Legislative Task Force on Demographic Research and Reapportionment (LATFOR) which released proposed legislative district lines for the next 10 years (which would take effect for the November 2012 election).
Other elected officials and prominent Russian-speaking Brooklynites spoke about the Councilman’s record and commitment to the community as a public servant.
