Leon Hadar: A few Israeli and American military experts have warned, a military strike on Iranian facilities would not achieve the declared Israeli goal of ending Iran’s alleged nuclear military program and the expected costs in terms of Israeli casualties could be very high. Moreover, if Iran gives the green light to its Shiite Hezbollah allies in Lebanon to attack Israel and mobilize the Shiites in Iraq and the Persian Gulf to retaliate against American and Saudi targets, Tehran would be in a position to strengthen its regional power. The ayatollahs would also be able to exploit an Israeli attack to ignite Iranian nationalism and win support even from those Iranians who actually oppose the ruling clerics and would like to see them removed from power.

Bussinessweek Reports: Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper reached agreements with China to facilitate uranium exports and air travel as part of efforts to deepen ties.
Harper and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao announced a pact that will give Canadian uranium producers more access to China’s civilian nuclear power industry, according to a joint statement released by Harper’s office. Canada is home to the world’s largest uranium producer, Cameco Corp. Read more »

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is expected to approve Southern Co.’s request to build two nuclear reactors in the southern state of Georgia.
If approved, the $14 billion reactors could begin operating as soon as 2016 and 2017.
The NRC last approved construction of a nuclear plant in 1978, a year before a partial meltdown of the Three Mile Island nuclear plant in Pennsylvania raised fears of a radiation release and brought new reactor orders nearly to a halt. Read more »

JTA Reports: Jona Rechnitz, 29, of New York, had wagered $1,000 on Super Sunday at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas that the New York Giants would score first — on a safety. With the odds at 50 to 1, Rechnitz earned a $50,000 payout.
Rechnitz, who is Orthodox, told TMZ that he would donate $5,000 to a charity chosen by New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady, who was penalized for intentional grounding in the end zone, causing the safety call. Read more »

Steven Kurlander Writes: A Jew changing affiliation to the Republican Party often faces the same stigma as one converting to another religion. So it’s not going to be anytime with the next decade, if ever, that a majority of American Jews who have liberal or independent leanings will switch allegiance to an uber conservative Republican Party.
This ingrained, almost religious loyalty by Jews to the Democratic Party remains so strong that if a Democratic president proclaimed he is anti-Semitic, I doubt whether a majority of Democratic Jews would switch and become Republican.

Avigdor Lieberman the Israeli Foreign Minister visited today Wednesday night the grave site of the late Ribnitz Rabbi in Rockland County NY.
The Rabbi originated from Russia where he had a name of a leader who showed wonders. The Rabbi passed away more than a decade ago after residing many years in the local Hasidic Community of Monsey. Lieberman is Russian-born and he fulfilled now a long-standing wish to visit the Rabbi’s grave site. Read more »
