Leon Hadar: A few Israeli and American military experts have warned, a military strike on Iranian facilities would not achieve the declared Israeli goal of ending Iran’s alleged nuclear military program and the expected costs in terms of Israeli casualties could be very high. Moreover, if Iran gives the green light to its Shiite Hezbollah allies in Lebanon to attack Israel and mobilize the Shiites in Iraq and the Persian Gulf to retaliate against American and Saudi targets, Tehran would be in a position to strengthen its regional power. The ayatollahs would also be able to exploit an Israeli attack to ignite Iranian nationalism and win support even from those Iranians who actually oppose the ruling clerics and would like to see them removed from power.

Steven Kurlander Writes: A Jew changing affiliation to the Republican Party often faces the same stigma as one converting to another religion. So it’s not going to be anytime with the next decade, if ever, that a majority of American Jews who have liberal or independent leanings will switch allegiance to an uber conservative Republican Party.
This ingrained, almost religious loyalty by Jews to the Democratic Party remains so strong that if a Democratic president proclaimed he is anti-Semitic, I doubt whether a majority of Democratic Jews would switch and become Republican.

Over most of the past decade, budget deliberations in Michigan have taken on a glum and familiar monotony: What do we cut now?

From the NJDC: National Jewish Democratic Council President and CEO David A. Harris commented, “Tonight’s huge wins by anti-choice extremist Rick Santorum—on top of his initial win in Iowa—will help drive away the overwhelmingly pro-choice American Jewish community in droves, reminding them just how extreme today’s GOP has become. This far-right candidate, who reminded us recently that ’we always need a Jesus candidate,’ is profoundly divisive on social issues and offensively anti-gay. At every turn and with every utterance, he reminds American Jews of the vast chasm separating themselves from today’s Republican Party.”
