NYS Senator Eric Adams Launches Campaign For Brooklyn Borough President

Senator Eric Adams at a Press Conference

Politicker Reports: State Senator Eric Adams put an end to speculation about which office he would seek, announcing in an email to supporters this afternoon, “At the behest of many of you, Eric has decided to pursue his dream to run for the office of Brooklyn Borough President in 2013. ”

Mr. Adams had been rumored to either be a  BP candidate in 2013 or make a run for Public Advocate, but the email today–sent by his chief of staff, Ingrid Lewis-Martin–makes plain that he has decided to go with the former.

“The road to Borough Hall is long and can be rocky, but with your continued support we can pave the way and set a smooth course,” the email reads. Read more »

All Faiths Unite To Fight Obama Administration’s Assault On Religion

Obama Tramples Constitution (Illustration)

Mike Brownfield writes for the Heritage Foundation: It is a rare moment indeed when faith denominations of all stripes unite together in common cause, and it is rarer still when that cause is a political one, with a sole piece of legislation as its principal target. But when that law eviscerates the very foundation of religious liberty in America as protected under the First Amendment, it should not be surprising that Catholics and Jews, evangelical Christians, and mainline Lutherans alike find common cause in defense of their liberties.

Such is the case with the firestorm of opposition to Obamacare and the Obama Administration’s attack on religious liberty. Under a new Obamacare mandate issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the White House is mandating that virtually all religious employers, Read more »

Jeffries Hammers Towns for Fundraising From The Wrong Places

The Brooklyn Paper Reports: Veteran Rep. Ed Towns (D–Fort Greene) raised almost a quarter of a million dollars in the last three months of 2011 — building an impressive war chest that proves that the 76-year-old lawmaker isn’t retiring and will fight for his job.

Towns pulled in $233,472 after boasting a bank account of just $11,240 last fall — a figure so low that some political observers thought the longtime legislator would hang up his hat and let state Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries (D–Fort Greene) and Councilman Charles Barron (D–Canarsie) duke it out for his seat. Was Jewish Engineer Brains Behind Hitler’s Favorite Car?

Josef Ganz

Lillian Swanson Writes: I should say from the start that I’ve never owned a Volkswagen Beetle.

I did learn to drive a stick shift in one of them, somewhere south of Madrid,  when it was my turn to drive. Three college pals who were packed into the “Bug” with me erupted in oaths with every mistake I made. They were merciless in the  summer heat, but I was a quick learner and — dare I say it? — what followed was  the very essence of a clutch performance.

So it was with that memory in mind that I opened Paul Schilperoord’s new book, “The Extraordinary Life of Josef Ganz, The Jewish Engineer Behind Hitler’s  Volkswagen” (RVP Publishers, 2011). Read more »

Obama is Pro-Israel After All

Stewart Ain Writes: President Barack Obama discredited the Goldstone Report critical of the way the Israeli military fought a war against Hamas in Gaza in December 2008.

He supported a United Nations resolution Israel accepted regarding the Jewish state’s handling of the Gaza flotilla in 2010; he made a middle-of-the-night phone call last year to get Egyptian authorities to rescue Israeli Embassy employees trapped by an angry mob; he provided Israel with two loan guarantees totaling $5.78 billion; Read more »

Jewish Activists in Virginia Fight Bill That Will Outlaw Bes Din (Arbitration Within Jewish Law)

Washington Jewish Week Reports: A bill making its way through the Virginia General Assembly could place broad restrictions on the application of foreign laws in Virginia courts, which might possibly limit the legality of religious laws in Virginia courts.

HB 825, which has a broad definition of what constitutes foreign law and no exemptions for particular religious matters, was a top priority item for Northern Virginia Jewish advocates who traveled to Richmond with the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington (JCRC) for Jewish Social Advocacy Day on Wednesday of last week. In 2011, GOP12 Field Raised More from Small Donors than What Obama Raised from Large Donors

report from the Campaign Finance Institute finds that more than half of the contributions made to President Obama’s reelection effort $200 or above, which is outside the so-called ”small donor” base which is contributions of $200 or less.

The president raised in 2011 more than $33 million from donors who gave $1,000 or more, while the Republican field raised more than $38 million from donors who gave $200 or less.

Slandering Hasidim with Impunity

In regards to a book written by a former Hasidic Woman, I can only say it is sad that lost souls reserve to inaccuracies and to blatant lies against Hasidic life just for publicity or perhaps resentment.

The true shame however is that reporters don’t bother hearing from or reporting about ‘the other side’ of a story before rushing out with a slanderous article against Hasidim. Read more »

Chaos in NY!

David Freedlander Reports: It is now the second week of February and due to some colossal inertia in Albany, if you were a citizen who dreamed of service in the Legislature, you would likely not know a) which district you live in b) whether or not that district has a sitting lawmaker and c) when, precisely, election day is.

In other words, New York is about to embark on an election season as chaotic and unpredictable as any in memory… Read more »

FACT OF THE DAY

In 2004 as a State Senator, Obama gave the Democrats’ weekly address and attacked Bush’s “weak job market” when the Unemployment Rate was in fact at 5.6%. Now with the rate above 8%, Obama claims “I deserve” another term.

Gingrich Nowhere to be Found Tuesday Night

Politico Reports: He wasn’t in any of the states that held contests — Colorado, Minnesota or Missouri — and he chose not to make an election-night speech to supporters.

In fact, Gingrich pretty much skipped the trio of contests where he didn’t fare terribly well anyway, having barely campaigned in Colorado and Minnesota. Instead, he kicked off a bus tour of Ohio on Tuesday to contest a state whose primary is still a month away. He says he’s focused on the Southern states that vote on Super Tuesday on March 6 in which he thinks he’ll be strong. Read more »

Santorum Wins COGOP MNGOP MOGOP Upending GOP12 Field; Shaking Romney’s WH2012 Dreams

The results of Tuesday’s elections were totally unexpected. The mostly reliable PPP firm had polls out in the morning, showing Romney winning Colorado by ten points, and Santorum taking away Minnesota by nine points and Missouri by thirteen. But instead, Romney lost Colorado by five points 35%-40%, and Santorum took MN by eighteen points and MO by a strong thirty points 55%-25% over Romney.

Romney took another beating by the fact that in Minnesota where PPP placed him second and behind Santorum with nine points (24%-33%), he came in third with 17% of the vote to Ron Paul’s 27% and Santorum’s actual 45%. Read more »

If Bob Turner’s District Is Saved, Who Gets the Axe?

Colin Campbell does the math of the NY redistricting: The conventional wisdom has long been that Mr. Turner’s Queens-based district would be chopped up and handed to the surrounding Representatives. However, if the district is kept largely intact, some of those surrounding seats could easily be significantly impacted.

With relatively anemic growth in Queens and Nassau counties compared to the rest of the state, it could be very difficult to avoid eliminating at least one district in the region. Although there are nine Congressional districts touching either of those two counties, some of them are particularly challenging or impossible to erase. Read more »

The social networking site arrives at an even more astounding number when it comes to “daily active users”: 483 million people…

ASSAULT ON RELIGION CONTINUES: Air Force Removes Reference to God From Unit’s Emblem

The Hill Reports: A group of Republican lawmakers is protesting the removal a reference to God in the patch logo for the Air Force Rapid Capabilities Office (RCO).

The 35 lawmakers, led by Rep. Randy Forbes (R-Va.), wrote a letter to Air Force Secretary Michael Donley and Chief of Staff Gen. Norton Schwartz urging them to restore the logo with a reference to God.

Forbes warned that the action taken by the RCO could set a“dangerous precedent” when it comes to religion and the military. Read more »
